Situated in the Santa Ynez Mountain Range, roughly 20–30 minutes north of Santa Barbara, Sage Hill Campground offers serene group camping amid gently rolling hills and riverfront landscapes.
Camp Layout & Group Facilities
The campground features five group sites, one of which is specially configured for equestrian groups, complete with 11–12 corrals and a hitching post, along with room for up to 60 people. The remaining standard sites accommodate 50 people and approximately 10 vehicles each.
Accessibility & Amenities
Paved roads and large parking areas capable of handling trailers and RVs, with allowances up to 99 feet in vehicle length.
Essential comforts include flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, BBQs, fire rings, and water faucets.
A dump station is conveniently located nearby at Cachuma Lake.
Nearby, you’ll also find sites shaded by oak trees, paved access, and suggestions to bring propane if there are fire restrictions (propane fire rings permitted).
Recreational Opportunities
Direct access to the Santa Ynez River—ideal for fishing (carp, catfish, bluegill, and occasional bass), swimming, and riverside leisure.
The Aliso Canyon Trail starts right at the campground and leads into the Santa Cruz Trail, perfect for hikers and riders alike.
Explore more at nearby Cachuma Lake Recreation Area for boating, kayaking, and additional hiking and nature-watching options.
The area supports diverse activities: hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, OHV use, wildlife viewing, stargazing, bird watching, and picnicking.
Access & Conditions
Reaching the campground requires fording the Santa Ynez River, which is usually manageable but can become impassable during heavy rains—campground closures are possible without much warning.
Bears are present—food must be stored securely, and firewood should be purchased locally to prevent spreading pests.
Campfires are allowed under permit. Check for any restrictions, especially during high fire risk periods.
Rates & Reservations
Expect group site fees starting around $125–$150 per night, with the equestrian site typically costing more; weekend or holiday premiums may apply.
Reservations are accepted—some sites fill up to six months in advance, especially on popular weekends
